The
April full moon, heralding the coming of spring, is often known as the
'pink moon', named for the moss pink flower which appears at this time
of year.
And much of the U.S. enjoyed a clear night on Friday, allowing for a beautiful view of the glowing orb suspended in the sky.
This
year, the pink moon coincides with the Easter weekend and the start of
Passover, the most sacred times in the Christian and Jewish calendar.
One
particularly spectacular view of the moon came over New York, as the
natural phenomenon even managed to outshine the city's famous
skyscrapers.
Amazing: The full moon glows orange behind the Empire State Building as it dominates the Manhattan skyline on Friday night
Iconic: But even the city's tallest skyscraper
is dwarfed by the 'pink moon', thought by many to herald the coming of
spring and the end of winter
Rising: The vivid full moon was easily seen even early in the evening, as its light vied with that of the setting sun
